Healthy Steps for Older Adults Instructor Training Workshop – Waterloo
EVENT DETAILS
The Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging (NEI3A) is hosting a 2-day Healthy Steps for Older Adults (HSOA) Instructor Training Workshop in Waterloo. This two-day training prepares participants to lead evidence-based fall prevention classes for older adults in their communities.
Each year, millions of adults age 65 and older experience falls—one in four annually. Falls can significantly impact independence and the ability to age safely at home. The Healthy Steps for Older Adults program addresses these risks through education, screening, and practical fall-prevention strategies.
About Healthy Steps for Older Adults
HSOA is an evidence-based fall risk screening and education program for adults age 60 and older. The program covers:
- Fall risk awareness and prevention strategies
- Proper footwear and home safety

Instructor Training Outcomes
Participants who complete the training will gain the tools, resources, and confidence needed to lead Healthy Steps for Older Adults classes and help older adults live active, confident lives with reduced fear of falling.
