Healthy Steps for Older Adults – Waverly
EVENT DETAILS
Falls are a leading cause of injury among older adults, but many fall risks can be reduced with practical prevention steps. To help community members stay active, safe, and independent, Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging (NEI3A) will offer a Healthy Steps for Older Adults (HSOA) class in Waverly this August.
HSOA is an evidence-based fall-risk screening and education program designed for adults age 50 and older. The class offers easy-to-use strategies to reduce fall risk, including tips on safe footwear, home safety improvements, nutrition for bone health, and the importance of regular physical activity. Participants will also learn simple at-home exercises to build strength, improve balance, and increase confidence.
The Waverly class will be held Thursday, August 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Waverly Senior Center, 506 E. Bremer Avenue, Waverly, IA 50677. Lunch will be provided, and each participant will receive a comprehensive program handbook.
The program is offered for a suggested voluntary contribution of $25, and scholarships are available upon request. Space is limited. To reserve a spot by the August 10 registration deadline, contact Missy Anders at 319-874-6893.
